Sexy or Slutty?

Miley Cyrus has a lot of people talking after her wild VMA performance last night!  It brings up a debate of where to draw the line between sexy and slutty.

Nowadays, stars have to compete for attention on a stage where everything has been done before.... from JeLo's low cut green dress at the 2000 Grammy's to Madonna and Britney's kiss at the VMA's in 2003 to Lady Gaga's meat dress at the 2010 MTV awards.

More and more, women in entertainment have been trying to out-slut each other to stand out.  Paris Hilton shot to tabloid fame when she flashed her crotch at parties and Kim Kardashian started her career with a sex tape.  So, obviously, it can capture attention.  But is that the kind of attention you want?

Boob jobs are on the rise, marriage is on the decline, and attention span is at a new low.  Slut appeal is like a flash that grabs the eye for a second, but has no staying power.  It's everywhere, easy to find, and easy to replace.

So how do you keep the intrigue for long-term?

A little mystery.  Show something, but not everything at once.  Leave them wanting more.

In fashion, this can be as easy as revealing one sexy body part at a time... cleavage, midriff or legs.  So, if you're wearing skin-tight pants that show off your butt, you don't also need to wear a low-cut belly shirt.  Save that for another day.  Or, if you're wearing a bosom-bearing corset, pair it with a full skirt or pair of jeans.  That way, a little something is left for the imagination, and you'll look sexy not slutty.

I say, if you want to be a slut, go for it!  Bare it all in a tiny mini dress or painted on catsuit!  Just know that people will be judging you, just like they're judging Miley right now, and all that hotness may blind them to your deeper qualities.

Whatever you choose, have fun and be safe!  Where you draw the line is up to you.  You have the power to change people's perception of you just by changing your outfit.  So rock it!
